Museo etnografico e
dello strumento musicale a fiato (Quarna Sotto)
Museum of local history and culture and
of wind instruments (Quarna, Lake Orta)
The exhibition is based on modern and peculiar standards. The upper floor is devoted to
musical instrument craft. The Quarna Museum is one of the few museums existing on musical
instruments, and it differs from the others as it shows the old manufacturing methods,
thus making it a unique one of this kind. The museum helps the visitor understand
symphonic and band music, as well as ancient and modern one. The first room, devoted to
clarinets, also covers oboes and bassoons and shows examples of the wooden models used to
make them.
The second room, devoted to saxophones, includes sarrusophones and saxorusophones. The
third room is devoted to flutes and the fourth to the wide range of brass instruments. The
final room shows present-day production, peculiar instruments and documents of old
companies.

Museo dell'Arte della
Tornitura del Legno (Pettenasco)
Five water mills (known as the factories), which were powered
by the roggia molinara (water mill canal) of the small river Pescone, were transformed
into turners workshops in the mid-eighteen hundreds, and were used until a few
decades ago. Inside one of these factories are a few rooms devoted to turned objects
dating back to the beginning of the XIX century and to later years. A section, which is
especially picturesque, has been created in a turners workshop. Here visitors can
admire the original tools and machinery used for turning wood.
